The Rule-of-Thirds

The Rule-of-Thirds is a guide to the composition of a photograph or picture.

It generally thought to be more pleasing to the eye if the main point of interest in a photograph or picture (for example a building) is placed to one side of the centre of the picture.

If you imagine the viewfinder of your camera is divided into nine smaller rectangles by two vertical and two horizontal lines, the points at which the lines intersect are said to be the ideal place to have your main point of interest.
